Is peridontitis preventable

Prevention of Periodontitis

In most people, peridontitis is preventable. Only in a small percentage of people the disease is related to a genetic predisposition, so that under these special circumstances it is not always possible to prevent the disease.

In addition to that, environmental factors such as smoking, diet and stress are known risk factors like diabetes mellitus, HIV and hepatitis.

If possible, the risk factors mentioned above, are eliminated. The most important parameters that lead to peridontitis is poor oral hygiene. Therefore the home dental care and the regular professional tooth cleaning are key factors in the prevention of the disease.

In conclusion/summary, a large percentage of all peridontitis related diseases are preventable.
