Long term provisional restauration

Long-term provisional restoration

Long-term provisional restorations are used when a final restoration cannot be made yet due to inflammatory processes of gingiva (gum) for example, or healing processes. It stabilizes the bite and makes it possible to check the situation that was created with the wax up. If it is used to shorter time frames, the provisional restoration is made of composite (plastic). If the healing times are significantly longer, as it is necessary after implant placement, the long-term provisional restoration are metal based. Unfortunately these long term temporary restorations are not well liked by the insurances as it is a type of restoration that is exclusively used for healing purposes and needs to be replaced with a definite restoration later on.
